The Target Beauty Box is a good option for a beauty box if you don't want a huge commitment and want to "get your feet wet" in regards to subscription boxes.
It's  $5 and it is a quarterly box.

(I'm really late in the game because I got this over a week ago)

Berry Cart: Natural Snack Monthly Subscription Box Review + Unboxing

Today's Review is of a brand new subscription box
You may have heard of Berry Cart because it's an app that gives you coupons and rebates on purchasing certain healthy snacks.
This box is great particularly if you want an introduction to healthy foods without spending a ton of money on stuff you might not like.

*product was received free for review

What I want to say before the review or anything is that I really love the curation of this box.
Firstly you get TONS of stuff to try.
But beyond that is that it hits all the major points
Gluten Free
and you get this good assortment of sweet / salty etc.
It satisfies all the qualifications without being overpriced.
At just $29 monthly and $24 for your first month it's a steal!

I liked this box so much in fact I'm doing something I've never done before
I am giving it a STAR!
That's right it's the first time in my reviewing history I have felt compelled to give something a star
 this box is that good!

I was a vegetarian for six years and I know how hard it is to find things that you CAN and WANT to eat.
Particularly depending on where you are ... the more remote your location the less likely that your grocer is stocking food you feel comfortable eating. This box has your back!

Benko Box: Children's Subscription Box Review + Unboxing

So today I am super excited because I get to show you guys a new subscription box for kids that is totally  unique, cool, and a lot of fun. Did I mention that it encourages imagination?

*received free for review

 It's called The Benko Box.

It's a box created by a Pre-K teacher and her daughter that actively encourages children to create.... not by a list or through dictation but using an open dialogue where the child has the ability to control the direction their own art is going. It's a super cool concept because I often feel like we give our kids crafts and the path is always straightforward... Point A to Point B - there's no guesswork or "what if we did this?" The Benko Box is more the "choose your own adventure" of children's craft subscription boxes.

Craft with the Kids: Little Froggy

Craft Time!

Got this craft from The Mailbox I get a LOT of my crafts from there.
Either way, kids don't care... they are mostly just happy to be using their hands and hanging out with mom and/or dad!

So for this one we are making a speckled frog
I always do these things very open ended
I do as much as I can by the instructions but amend it as needed

So here is what I used
  • 3 Green Construction Paper Circles (2 smaller and 1 large)
  • Different Colored Poms
  • Glue
  • Marker
  • Scissors
This one is super simple -
I just traced the circles onto the green construction paper using two different sized bowls and then cut it out.

We then cut the smaller circles in half.

Next you will want to glue the half circles on to the larger circle like so

Aww... how cute you can see now how one circle serves as his hind legs and the other serves as his little front froggy feet

Next we want to put spots on him and eyes with the poms (the instructions say to use stickers for the spots... I just used poms... they are tactile and Oliver really enjoyed them!)

Oliver clearly enjoying the poms!

Now you just have to give your frog a face!

And a mustache, hair and a beard according to this little lady.

Either way Oliver and I ended up with this as a finished product

Not a masterpiece but was something to keep us occupied on a rainy afternoon!
Show us pictures of yours... we want to see!!!

Fresh Bib Review

Do you have a baby or a toddler?
Does that baby or toddler take off their bib ALL THE TIME!?

I have three (almost four) kids
and I know this pain....

*I received this product free for review in exchange for an honest opinion of the product

Luckily for us there is a company that promises to banish this problem in a way that is absolutely and utterly adorable.

Fresh Bib Costs $16 a month

That gets you:

One of the most adorable boxes ever!
And jars....

Seriously it comes in a jar!
Get it? FRESH?!

Ok, so it's clever and the concept is cute. And just in case you can't read in the photo the picture on the box is a rabbit (for Easter) and it says, "something for your hare" and in that egg is... you guessed it....
So it's all these things but the real question now is,
Does it work?

OK so in that picture if you look there are snaps on the bib instead of the typical velcro or the worst of them all.... ties

So now we shall administer what I like to call,
 the tot test
That's Oli my two year old who is getting molars and actively enjoys putting his fingers in his mouth

Here's him trying to get it off

Psyche lil' playa'
You aren't getting that off!

Also, did I mention it's reversible???
So cool!
Perfect for an infant to a two year old!
Works ... like a dream!

Love the product and the company is awesome!

Parental Frustration and The Great Sock Hunt

I'm a mom.
But I have moments where I want to just be Asheli....
those are the most frustrating moments.
Like when I'm trying to sneak in ten minutes for the blog which turns into an hour - suddenly I hear someone ask me a favor (a little tiny favor) and I can feel the frustration.

I pry myself away from the "me" task and realize quickly and guiltily. This is my job because before I'm Asheli, I'm a mom.

I've found in my experience that, you learn to cut corners to save yourself certain efforts (and from certain gray hairdom) and to let you guys know just how "real" it is around here.... I want to show you one of our awesome examples....

Let me just preface with the fact that I don't match my socks... if I do it's because I'm not wearing pants and people can see them but otherwise... no time for that nonsense. I just dump them in my sock drawer and voila... I also am guilty (until very recently) of doing this with my children.

Now instead we do something we like to call the "Great Sock Hunt"

That right there is my truth folks

Nicely Noted Review

Nothing is as romantic or endearing as the hand written note. Too often we quickly text or send an email to people for whatever occasion we want them to know we remember. Seems so sterile, clinical... BORING!

Nicely Noted is a stationary subscription service that sends you a curated collection of letterpress cards and stamps each month.
I REALLY like that they include the stamps.
It's clear once you look at the package that this product is intended to be a gift that persuades the giftee to KIT or so to speak. I like that. It's kitschy and fun.
The biggest compliment someone can give you is saying they want more of you in their life... so how can something like Nicely Noted not make you smile?!

My Newest Interest: A Subscription Box for my Older Children

*post contains referral links
I have a subscription box for myself - Birchbox

I have something in the works as well for my son.

But I wanted something for my daughters.. they are little tricky because they are older. Not just anything will amuse them anymore

I did a lot of research and I think I really want to try Little Passports World Edition

If you don't know about little passports they are a "choose an adventure" monthly subscription box for children. They have a few different sets for kids 3-5, 6-10, 7-12.

In the World Edition Sam and Sofia (the duo that goes on all these adventures) sends you a package from a different country each month. The first month you get a nifty blue "little explorers" suitcase which is super cute.

Perfect for these guys!

Everything that I've heard or seen is positive. It encourages worldliness and exploration in children.

And at my girls age they are so impressionable I want them to really get a taste of different parts of the world.

We create this cultural bubble and it's so hard to see outside of that once we are adults, I want my kids to know that there's this giant world out there full of different ideas, thoughts, beliefs, and most importantly EXPERIENCES!

Click below to join the adventure!

Sign up for a Little Passports 12 month subscription (USA or World Edition)!"

And look for that review in the future!!

Little Tip: Parenting and Doctors Appointments

If you have kids you know how often you are at the doctor. Not just because they are sick but also because they have well checkups (and if they are under two) they are constant.

It's daunting and the kids are usually tired because they schedule you right around nap time and all they want to do is touch everything at the doctors that they shouldn't and make you look like the worst parent that has ever roamed the earth.

Doesn't have to be that way!
Not for the ENTIRE time at least.

Here's a cute little hack
Get a box of crayons and put them in your bag before you go
Once you are back in the actual exam room let your kid go WILD on the roll out paper on the table...

They think it is awesome because they get to write on something that resembles something they shouldn't

You think it is awesome because it gives you a reprieve from following them around the office and saying, " no, don't touch that" in hushed whispers over and over.

The doctor... may not think this is cool but maybe they will - either way they shouldn't have kept you waiting so long. Should they have?

Have a cool tip that you'd like to share? Leave it in a comment below!

Julep Maven: Diamond Birthstone 4 Piece Gift

Just scrolling through facebook the other day I passed a Julep ad ...
and in case you didn't know Julep is a Subscription Box that sends you monthly full size makeup products. In particular they are known for their nail polish selection.
I have only ever tried one Julep product and that was a few years ago when I used to subscribe to Citrus Lane. It was to me just nail polish but since April is my birthday month and they were advertising a four piece gift set free... all I had to pay was shipping

There's my unboxing.
If you want to skip all that awkward I'll cut to the chase.

It came with three nail polishes and one lip conditioner.
Beautifully packaged and like a little box of happiness.
When I saw the ad it was the colors that drew me in... particularly that purple (lavendar) Julep refers to it as "London"

So light, so delicate, so pretty.

After I painted however, I remembered that I am not a big fan of the brush julep uses, feels so bulky and seems to put way too much lacquer on your nail... but the color alone more than makes up for that little faux pas.

I tried the lip conditioner today and it was DIVINE. It really was and I like that the tip of the dispenser is metal. It gives it that little extra that you need.

If your birthday is in April and you'd like to try out Julep Maven products for just the cost of shipping click below!

Little Hack - Less mess when feeding your toddler

Kids are great aren't they???
I love mine.. they drive me crazy but boy oh boy do I love them!

My son was is so messy when he eats and if you are like us... transitioning from apartment to owning a home, then you know that all apartments are not created equal. Ours has carpeting.... in our dining area. Not even kidding. We at first set him up to eat in the kitchen but he definitely had strong feelings about being segregated from his family during mealtime... so we had to figure out something that worked for us.

We found a little hack.

You know those clear plastic mats that you put your computer chair on?
Yeah we went to Costco and picked one up and put it under his highchair

:insert that win song right here:

Typically the highchair is OBVIOUSLY a lot closer to the table but basically his highchair sits on that mat and catches all the Yuck that I DO NOT want to have to clean out of the carpet.

Thought maybe this could help some parent out there who is struggling with this problem - I know how crazy it can be... extra work!

OZ Naturals 20% Vitamin C + Amino + Hyaluronic Acid Serum

I'm kind of a skincare nerd. Any opportunity to try it and I am DOWN!
I was recently asked to review OZ Naturals Vitamin C Skin Serum and I didn't know what to expect considering I have honestly never really tried a skin serum. And while I received this product for free I would gladly purchase.

I have my skin routine. I wash and moisturize because I have really, really dry skin and find that the more "product" I use on my face the more blotchy and red it becomes. I was a little scared too seeing that this product was acidic but I figured that books shouldn't be judged by their covers.... this one is really pretty though!

The instructions say to wash face and pat dry as usual. Then add the serum (they don't really say how so I just used my fingers). Once the serum is dry you are supposed to moisturize (if that is part of your routine) Obviously if you don't usually moisturize you don't have to.

I don't know about you but when I hear the word serum... it drums up words like "potion" and "magic" in my mind. The fact that it comes in a little dropper kind of adds to that. I felt like a chemist, it was kind of a cool feeling.

OZ Naturals is all organic and cruelty free. It gives you radiant, youthful skin by neutralizing free radicals. Pretty Radical if you ask me....

It has no detectable smell and the texture is not thick... actually it's exactly as I would imagine a serum being.

OK so result time because my friends that is what matters most in the world of skincare (besides the packaging)
At first there was no difference. Absolutely none. I decided to wait a day since... it's a serum it might have to do some "magic" before any effects are noticeable.
Today my skin is fresh... it looks clearer and more healthy. I would even venture to use the word "vibrant"
In fact I liked it so much I am actually going to make this product a part of my routine which is kind of a big deal for me... since I use only two regularly.

I would totally recommend this product.

For you if: You want to revitalize the look of your skin, have sensitive skin, want to use a product that is organic, natural, and cruelty free, are in your late 20's or early 30's and want to start getting that anti aging process in place

Not for you if: You are a "quick fix person" and need immediate results

*I was given this product in exchange for a fair and honest review

DIY Dollar Store Easter Basket

Here is a simple tutorial on how to make an inexpensive Easter Basket.
These particular baskets cost about 3 dollars each but that is including the ribbon (which I already had). Depending on what you have laying around you can easily make these for 2 dollars and if you are really savvy even less.

Here is what you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue
  • Basket
  • Ribbon
  • Fake Flowers
So the basket and flowers I purchased at the dollar store.
I have three children so I had to get a bunch of different kinds to get a little variety in there but the options are really endless.

Here are my supplies.

Here are my palettes. The blue is for my son, the yellow for my oldest daughter (it's her favorite color) and the pink for my younger daughter

Here's how you make one!
  1. Get your ribbon ready (measure it out against the basket) and your glue gun ready (heat that baby up!!!
  2. Glue the Ribbon on the basket

  3. Take the flowers off of the stems
  4. You can hot glue them on but out of concerns of nap times not taking long enough I opted to just kind of jimmie them through the basket cracks (LOL)

  5. Take a step back and make sure you are happy with the fullness of it all and if you want add some some more or add some leaves ... whatever really ... the beauty of this is it's customizable to you and your child :)
Here are my finished products.

Bear in mind these aren't high quality.
They aren't keepsakes but they are definitely cute and they are definitely a really cool way to have a unique Easter basket for your child or for anyone really

Just for the heck of it I made a couple for my nieces as well.
Same basic concept except I used little glass vases (also available at the dollar store) instead of baskets.

So that's what I got!
Hope you guys have a great Easter and if you have some really cute basket pictures I would love to hear about them or better yet see them!!!
