Calcutta Kitchens Saucescription Review + Unboxing

Calcutta Kitchens is a Connecticut based company that creates Indian simmer sauces and spice kits. They recently released their Saucescriptions that send you 4 jars of their sauces either monthly or bi-monthly for $36.99

Here's the Box Breakdown

Everything that we received in the Calcutta Kitchens Saucescriptions. There is one of each of their sauces but you can choose to receive whatever combo you'd like!


So what is all this stuff?



This tomato sauce has a mild creaminess and a bit of tang coupled with umami to make this a great sauce for entertaining! Each jar came with a card that has two different recipes. Included for this sauce was the Tofu Tikka Makhani recipe and the Palak Chicken


An aromatic sauce with warm Cardamom and mild coconut milk. The Calcutta Kitchens sauces are Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Paleo to boot. The recipes included for this sauce are - Cauliflower & Fish in Coconut Sauce and Coconut Rice with Kale


We love cilantro so this is easily a win for us! A bold and bright sauce that combines coriander (cilantro) and raw almonds. The recipes included for this sauce are; Vegetable Ratatouille Indian Style and Chicken with Eggplant in Green Sauce


Sharp ginger and nutty cashews comprise this sauces rich flavor.  We decided we would make a recipe with this sauce as it seemed like everyone would love it. The two recipes included for this sauce were - Tofu Vegetable Cashew Curry and Parsi Cashew Chicken Curry. We opted for the former and the recipe was super simple!

Cut up 1.5 lbs of chicken and 2 Yukon Gold (we subbed Red Bliss and used about 7) potatoes. Cook the chicken on medium heat until no longer translucent and then add the potatoes

Saute it for a few more minutes and then add a 1/4 cup of water and Parsi Cashew Ginger Sauce and bring to boil

Turn down to Medium Low and allow to simmer until potatoes are cooked through

We added some broccolli for color

Then we served it over rice - voila!


So in summary


We can't break the Calcutta Kitchens Saucescription down the way we do our other subscriptions because we know what we are getting when we subscribe but we can say the meal that we created was delicious and we love the variety of exotic flavors. Bonus points for being vegan, gluten and dairy free as well as paleo! A great option for people who are looking to branch out with their meals and love Indian food!
