Here’s the Box Breakdown
Everything that we received in our Piquant Post Subscription. This month adds a fun spin on traditional Thanksgiving recipes!
So what is all this stuff?
This spice packet includes a mix of coriander, cumin, turmeric, black pepper, cardamom, ginger, curry leaves, fenugreek, ceylon cinnamon and cayenne pepper
The corresponding recipe suggests using this spice packet in a “Cranberry Curry Lentil Soup” and uses pumpkin puree. The curry spice doesn’t have heat so you can serve this to kids without fear of burning their mouths! This sounds delicious as well as unique and we can’t wait to try it!
Herb Vinaigrette Blend
This packet includes a blend of oregano, marjoram, basil, thyme, tangerine peel, parsley, mustard seed, fennel seed, and black pepper perfect for creating the most perfect vinaigrette!
The recipe that goes along with this vinaigrette is “Green Beans in Shallot Vinaigrette”. This recipe is intended to shake up our typical overcooked green bean side dishes using our Shallot infused vinaigrette. We are HUGE salad eaters and will honestly, probably be using this on our future salad fare!
This chipotle spice combines chipotle, sage, paprika, cumin, Mexican oregano, marjoram, onion powder. garlic powder, porcini powder and black pepper to create a flavor that is great on stuffing, roasted vegetables, chicken, pork or fish!
The recipe that we received in a “Chipotle Sourdough Stuffing” and adds a Southwestern twist to a Thanksgiving classic! Sounds super tasty!
This chai spice includes; cinnamon, peppermint, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper to create the warming notes of chai without the associated sweetness we’ve become accustomed to
The rebel dessert that is suggested for this spice is a “Peppermint Chai Loaf” and strays away from the norm with a loaf instead of… PIE! For this reason alone (and the fact that our kids love desserts) we decided this would be the recipe that we completed this month
Okay so now what?
We start out our recipe by greasing our pan
Next we add our softened butter and brown sugar to a bowl
And then cream it together
Separately we add our Chai spice to a bowl
Then we add some hot water
Mix together and allow to steep for 2 minutes
While that’s steeping we add eggs, milk, baking soda, baking powder, salt and finally the spice mixture. Beat on low.
Once you’ve done this add your flour and beat until thoroughly mixed
You’ll get something like this.
You’ll then pour the batter in a pan and bake for 60 minutes.
Separately you’ll create your frosting by combining Greek Yogurt and powdered sugar.
This will be added to your bread like a glaze
Our finished product! This was a HUGE hit! The kids absolutely loved it!
So in summary
We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Piquant Post Box is an amazing way to keep your meals fun and interesting with simple and tasty recipes and flavors. The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is fantastic. Each of these blends is hand crafted in small batches and with quality spices. And curation is so cool! This month was a stray from our usual Piquant Post mix and we loved it!
