first look in family reading crate

Our first glimpse inside the Family Reading Crate for July.

july familiy reading crate

Everything that we received in our July¬† “We are Family” themed Reading Crate. As promised there are 4 books, bookmarks, our discussion notes and 4 fun animals that go along with our children’s book for the month!

So what is all this stuff?

Our insert includes both our discussion workbook and 3 bookmarks!

This outlines each book, why it was chosen and who it’s for and follows up with discussion topics for each book as well. This is really helpful and gets everyone engaged in the story!

The Two Family House by Lynda Cohen Loigman

This book was included for the parents this month. This is a family saga that involves 2 sister in laws.

The story takes place in Brooklyn in 1947 where 2 babies are born just minutes apart. The two sister in laws share a secret that rips their friendship apart… but what is it? This book looks like it’s going to be amazing!

Just Fly Away by Andrew McCarthy

Just Fly Away was included for the teen in your home. This is a bit angsty and follows Lucy who’s found out her father had a child from an affair. How can she forgive him?

And you may find the name of this author a bit familiar. This really is “Brat Pack” actor Andrew McCarthy!

As Brave as You by Jason Reynolds

This is July’s family read aloud. This is a new concept to us but Mr. Not a Tree reads to us (we’re currently reading the Dark Tower series) so reading aloud to the kids (even the olders) who read on their own now, seems like a really great idea!

This story follows 2 brothers who are spending the summer with their grandparents. They go all the way from Brooklyn to Virginia in this coming of age tale. We love the jacket art for this one!

My Family is a Zoo by K.A. Gerrard

And for the youngest readers there’s My Family is a Zoo. A picture book that follows a family on their way to meet Mom. They also brought their animal friends along as well!

The art is fun and engaging. Great for getting kids interested!

Animal Figures

To go along with our picture book we also received 4 small animal figurines for your little one to play with while you read!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Family Reading Crate is one of a kind – this box is a gift for the entire family and we are really impressed with all the work they do getting titles that fit their monthly themes. The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is very nice. We received 3 hardcovers out of the 4 books that we received. Curation is outstanding, each of the books that came in this crate had a family theme and they catered to all different ages! If you are looking for new ways to spend time and bond with your family – this is definitely a subscription to look into!
