Subscription Box Review
Our first glimpse inside the Unplugged Book Box for July. This month’s theme is “Stars are only Visible in Darkness” which is sold out!
Everything that we received in our July Box from Unplugged Book Box. This is a great assortment of items you can use on all your summer adventures!
So what is all this stuff?
We received 3 box inserts in this package. The first tells us about this month’s theme.
And the reverse of this card lists each of the items that we received. They also include a fun game where you can win boxes by posting photos of the items that you receive on certain dates. This is a really cool way to interact with the brand!
Each package from Unplugged Book Box comes with a spotify playlist. Here is this months:
The reverse of that card includes a couple open ended questions where we can express our gratitude – like a mini gratitude journal! How cute!
Our next insert tells us the theme for the August 2019 Unplugged Book Box – Off the Grid, which is also sold out.
The Chosen by Taran Matharu
Our book for the month is the first in the Contender series by Taran Matharu. Our protagonist Cade is transported to another realm along with his classmates from his new boarding school. This realm is full of items from the past… including people that have gone missing. Before they can even let this sink in Cade and his classmates are forced into a brutal game. This sounds like a really interesting novel to us and we can’t wait to read it. We also think this will be a great book (and series) for Penelope.
The book comes with a letter from the author that tells us why he wrote this novel. It was born from a love of history and was his way of putting every period into one novel.
The book also comes with a signed bookplate. We love that they do this with many of the books that you receive in the Unplugged Book Box.
Rhysand Candle from Flickerwix
Our first bookish goodie in this box is from Flickerwix candles. This is exclusive to this box and is based on the Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns & Roses. As he faced dark times before he saw the stars this candle is perfect for this box.
The entire top of the candle is peppered with glitter making it look like a beautiful starlit sky.
The scent of this gorgeous candle is slightly floral and somewhat fruity. We really like it!
Tracker Jacker Repellent from Badger Face Beauty
This lotion bar from Badger Face Beauty was made exclusively for Unplugged Book Box and is a great inclusion in any summer box! This all natural product includes shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, citronella, lavender, eucalyptus and cedar essential oils. Badger Face Beauty is a new to us brand and we’ll definitely be checking out more in their line of products.
Winter is Over Sunscreen from Unplugged Book Box
The next item in our box is another perfect for Summer item. This Game of Thrones themed – “Winter is Over” sunscreen is a tongue in cheek play on words that is definitely apt. This is a one ounce bottle that has a beautiful Coconut Breeze Scent. This is a broad spectrum SPF 30 that is a chemical sunscreen formulation. This product was made by the Unplugged Book Box team.
The Summer Unplugged Book Box series featured three pins. This is the second pin and it was inspired by one of the curators favorite fandoms, Captain America and Bucky. This pin is an Unplugged Book Box Exclusive!
The pin says, “Till the End of the Line” and has a pretty red glittered enamel. Our daughter collects pins so we’ll pass this pretty one on to her.
Ms. Peregrine’s Cooler from Unplugged Book Box
This cooler was designed by the Unplugged Book Box team and has and image and saying that was inspired by Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and is exclusive to this box. It’s meant to remind us that while the past may contain dark moments we are always moving forward towards the light of tomorrow.
We think this is great for a summer themed box and love that it has pockets all over for bottles, phones, wallets and whatever else you need to bring along on your adventure.
Personally we also love the grey, black and white color combo. Just enough personality but not too much!
The inside is insulated keeping your food safe from heat and sunlight! This would be a great back to bring along to the beach, lake or pool.
So in summary
Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to us perfectly in our July Unplugged Book Box. We love all the information they give us including that cool playlist to listen to as we relax and unwind and the fun little contests that they include.
Quality: We love that they source so many of their items from small businesses. This is a great way to find products and companies you otherwise might now know about.
Curation: This is Summer themed but also has that sky / darkness theme as well. We think they brought both together quite well and we are impressed with this box! Another great month from Unplugged Book Box.
