Subscription Box Review
My first glimpse inside the box for this week. It’s important to note that all of the Misfits Market packaging is either recyclable or compostable!
Each package from Misfits comes with a recipe card as well. This week it’s Roasted Carrot and Red Pepper Dipping Sauce which actually sounds really tasty!
So what is all this stuff?
In lieu of sending cards with the items included you can find a weekly list of items available in boxes on the Misfits Market website.
The first item in my box are these two acorn squashes. We slice these up thin and bake them with salt, pepper, garlic and a wee bit of olive oil. These are by far my favorite squash – they have the most beautiful flavor! Love them!
The next item in my box is Spaghetti Squash. When you customize your box you’ll choose from five groups. Many times squash is an option as it adds greatly to the overall weight of your box. Since subscribing to Misfits Market I have really renewed my love of squash.. it’s so tasty and healthy. And this spaghetti squash is simple to make and delicious!
I also chose grapefruits to be in my box. I love these for breakfast – just a half with 3 egg whites (it’s about a hundred calories and so filling).
Next is rainbow chard. We love chard. It’s so healthy and absolutely delicious. Something that Misfits Market does a lot is doubles items in their larger Madness Box. This is great for larger families who may be two bunches of something to have a side that is able to fill everyone!
Here’s what we made with ours! Shrimp in a lemon / tomato sauce with sauteed chard. Can I just tell you how delicious this is?! Oh my!
Another item in our box are these four purple onions. I love purple onions particularly raw. They’re great on sandwiches and in pico de gallo and so many other salads. They’re fresh, bright and crisp and have a great bite!
Whenever pears are available from Misfits Market I always choose them because my husband loves them. Most times we just slice them up or eat them whole. Nothing special about that process. This picture shows four there were six included in total though (I just missed the other two).
Next in our box are these three green bell peppers. It’s visible why these would be considered “ugly” but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good enough to eat! I love bell peppers for their versatility! Most times I slice them up and make a salad out of them but they are also really delicious sauteed in a pan!
Then we have two eggplant. I chose these because I love the taste and back when I was a vegetarian eggplant was one of those vegetables that was healthy as well as filling. I will be honest in saying that I’m not sure the best way to cook these so if you have any suggestions leave it for me down in the comments!
Next we have two bunches of beets. I LOVE beets. I prefer them made in a vinegar sugar glaze the way my Grandmother used to make them but I’ll eat them roasted in butter and garlic as well. Either is really tasty!
I also chose a bag of green beans because why not!? These are delicious and really simple to cook up in a jiffy. These bags that they use on the bunches of veggies are called biobags and are completely environmentally friendly!
I love cabbage – it is the best in a salad. I usually slice it up and dress with with some dill, onion and white wine vinegar with just a touch of oil. But the options are really endless. The best thing about cabbage is because it’s a heartier vegetable it’s almost always available in the winter months.
The final vegetable in this month’s box are these two little containers of grape tomatoes. These are always a hit in our house. The kids love to snack on them and they’re also great in salads. You may not have noticed but these were the tomatoes that we used in the shrimp dish pictured above!
And again, lemons another item we used in the shrimp dish. We used both the juice and the zest from these tomatoes. But on any other day the kids would eat these or they’d be use to create a simple salad dressing of lemon juice salt and olive oil!
The final item in our box for this week are these six apple… I know there are eight items but I included the two pears missing from the picture above. These are golden delicious apples – there were two types to choose from for the week. I usually use these in lunches either sliced or on peanut butter and apple sandwiches!
So in summary
Presentation: Everything arrived to me perfectly in my box. I know this is supposed to be “ugly” but it just ain’t
Quality: I love that the fruits and vegetables in this box are organic – it makes me feel so much more comfortable eating it.
Curation: Because I can customize my box I think this curation rocks!
